Brown bag your meds in March

February
13

Are you taking too many pills? Do you know what they are for and how they may interact with each other?

Older adults, particularly seniors, are more likely to take prescription medication long term and are more likely to get multiple prescriptions. People 65 years and older comprise of only 13 percent of the population, yet account for approximately 1/3 of all medications prescribed in the U.S., according to a recent report on trends in prescription drug abuse by the National Institutes of Health.

During the first week in March, pharmacists at The Burke Rehabilitation Hospital in White Plains will provide one-on-one professional evaluation of all prescription and over-the-counter medications and herbal supplements you take.

The hospital will host the free Pharmacy Brown Bag Event on March 3 and on March 5 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day in the Wood Pavilion, building #7, on Burke’s main campus at 785 Mamaroneck Avenue.

The medication evaluation is free and open to the public.

Individuals may bring all the medications they or a family member take in a “brown bag or other container.

Burke’s pharmacists will answer questions on how the medications interact with each other and whether the interaction is negative or dangerous.

For information, call The Burke Rehabilitation Hospital pharmacy at 914-597-2208.
