Rockland offers smoking cessation program

September
19

Rockland will start a new session of its popular smoking cessation program this month. The free program sponsored by the Department of Health combines group support, behavioral techniques and nicotine-replacement therapies, including gum, lozenges and nicotine patches.
More than 1,200 people have taken the class since the county started offering it more than six years ago.
The program has had a good success rate in helping people kick the habit.
More than 73 percent of people who start the program complete it and more than 42 percent of those participants are still cigarette-free a year later, according to records that are analyzed by a public health expert hired by the county.
Nationally, the average success rate is closer to 20 percent.
The Put It Out Rockland Smoking Cessation Program will be offered at Helen Hayes Hospital in West Haverstraw and at Blue Hill Plaza in Pearl River.
To register call Put It Out Rockland at 845-364-2651.
