With just weeks to go before Americans vote for the next president, the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine is devoting much of its new issue to the presidential candidates and an analysis of their healthcare plans. The journal invited senators Barack Obama and John McCain to discuss their proposals to solve the nation’s healthcare mess. The journal also asked physicians to rate plans by both candidates.
Not surprisingly, the authors found much to dislike in both plans.
Perspective: Primum Non Nocere – The McCain Plan for Health Insecurity, was written by David Blumenthal, M.D., M.P.P., Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston.
On the other side, Perspective: Symptomatic Relief, but No Cure – The Obama Health Care Reform, was written by Joseph R. Antos, Ph.D., American Enterprise Institute, Washington, D.C.
The journal’s report also features a video of a roundtable discussion with the candidates.
