Walk-a-thons for Leukemia, Heart fundraising

October
2

It’s walk-a-thon season and two local groups are planning fundraising events this weekend.
The first is the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, which will have its event Saturday at Nyack Memorial Park. More than 600 people are expected. The group’s hero of the Rockland walk is Amy Dave of Valley Cottage, who survived B-cell lymphoma and is active in the organization. Dave also works as a physician’s assistant in a radiation oncology practice.
Registration for the walk will start at 5 p.m. Opening ceremonies will take place at 6:30 p.m. and the walk will start at 7 p.m. Post-walk entertainment and fireworks will start at 7:45 p.m.
Call the Westchester/Hudson Valley chapter of the organization at 914-949-0084 for more information.
Another walk-a-thon will take place Sunday on the grounds of Blue Hill Plaza in Pearl River.
The Little Bit o’ Sole 5K walk will raise money for the Active International Cardiovascular Institute at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern.
Registration starts at 9 a.m.
Other sponsors include Mercedes-Benz of Rockland, Mack-Cali, Novartis, Provident Bank, and others. For more information call 845-732-8466.

Raising money for research is incredibly important – thank you for including these on your blog.

Another important responsibility for citizens is voting, something I know we’re hearing so much about in the run-up to the election. Before you vote, it’s important to be educated on the candidates’ positions, and we have a voter education initiative that can help.

Visit http://www.yourcandidatesyourhealth.org to find out where your candidates for Congress and president stand on health research funding, global competitiveness and other related issues.

So far, only FIVE candidates from New York (of the 69 running) have responded. I hope you and your readers will agree that New York candidates should share their positions on these issues. Encourage them to do so at the site, and while you’re there, find out where the presidential candidates stand on similar questions as well as comparisons to public opinion. Thanks.
