Connecticut groups bring medicine to Haiti

October
8

Two Connecticut-based charities have delivered more than 30,000 pounds of medicine and medical supplies, including antibiotics, antiseptics, oral-rehydration salts to treat dehydration from diarrhea, pain medicines, multivitamins, gauze and sutures to victims of recent floods in Haiti.

“Save the Children”:http://www.savethechildren.org/ and “AmeriCares”:http://www.americares.org/ made the delivery, worth nearly $3 million, to Port-au-Prince earlier this week.

The products will be distributed free of charge to patients in need through regional medical supply chains, hospitals, clinics and health facilities by the Haitian Ministry of Public Health and Population’s Pharmaceutical Control Division.

More than 800 people died and many thousands were left homeless after the impoverished  nation was struck by Tropical Storm Fay on August 15 and 16, by Hurricane Gustav on August 26, by Tropical Storm Hanna on September 1 and by Hurricane Ike on September 6 and 7.
